Art Encounters Biennial
The Art Encounters Biennial in Timișoara is a dynamic and growing international festival of contemporary art. I worked with the editing team to produce, edit and revise the written materials for the biennial in 2017 and 2019, as it grew from a 4 week event to a 9 month engagement. These materials include brochures and flyers, social media promotion, and long texts for the anthology of the biennial, published and distributed at the closing ceremonies.
Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance
In 2016, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance began to implement its V3P manufacturing and approval process across all their worksites. So as to train new engineers across Europe and abroad, I was asked to write the instructional texts and to narrate them for training videos. This long project involved sitting down with engineers, discussing their processes, and arranging and composing these materials into compelling and coherent instructions. The training videos are currently being used in factories across Europe and abroad.
The Glass Garden, by Tatiana Țîbuleac
This literary translation, a fragment from the Moldovan author's second novel, preceded Țîbuleac's winning the 2019 European Union Prize for Literature [read more]. I include this example because of the intense editing and revision process, along with the strong creative focus, which literary translation requires. I have been studying and practicing this craft since 2012,
Digit Rebound - Why Digitalization Will Not Redeem Us Our Environmental Sins, by Vlad Coroama and Friedemann Mattern
Before presenting at an conference, the scholars contacted me to edit their research paper on the environmental impacts of digitalized industries and products. This project was particularly rewarding as it required extensive research into two areas of study, environmental and technological, and packaging their specific discourses into one coherent, written package.
Pelicam International Film Festival
This international festival for environmental and social documentaries takes directors, producers, journalists and scientists from around the world to the Danube Delta in Romania. I worked with guest services, building partnerships with travel companies, restaurants, hotels, museums, the town hall, and others, to host our guests over the course of the festival.
English Communication Training
From 2015 to 2018, I collaborated with the MMG International to hold group and individual communication training sessions at various companies, from multinational banks and accounting firms to local printing houses and start-ups. Here, we combined language teaching with international communication, brand strategy, and customer relations.
Scena9
I began my translation collaboration with Scena9 in 2018. This team of young, talented journalists deliver stories which primarily concern younger generations, tackling social issues which were previously ignored, as well as publishing book, theatre and film reviews. This collaboration is particularly intriguing as it requires that I take a deep dive into contemporary Romanian society and, after deep revision and editing, can share these lesser-known stories, wonderfully researched and beautifully written, with an English-speaking audience.
Intellectual Property Law: Public Statements
Along with the WeTranslate team of translators, I wrote and edited short public statements for a lawyers associated with the World Intellectual Property Organization. These statements included concise descriptions of changes in international IP law, pertinent tips for protecting trademarks, and forecasts for what may come in the future. This project required clear and continuous communication between collaborators, and extremely clear writing with clearly defined terms, making for an extremely rewarding collaboration.
BIEFF: Bucharest International Experimental Film Festival
BIEFF invites contemporary, experimental filmmakers, producers and talents to Bucharest for five days, including screenings, debates, tours and parties. In guest services, myself and my colleague were responsible for arranging travel and accommodation for the festival's international guests, and arranging meals for the festival's jury members. In preparing for the festival, we served as liaisons between the festival and local hotels, theaters, restaurants, book stores, clubs and more.
Poetry
In poetry, irrespective of one's skill or visibility, the pertinence or beauty of their message, everything depends on the reader's consent. This has taught me the importance of sincerity in everything I write, as this is the surest way to earn consent. At the same time, this purely creative process sharpens the humor, playfulness and inventiveness which enrich my writing in all domains.
